Patience Sampson grew up in Cumberland, Maine, and now splits her time between Friendship, Maine and Boston, Massachusetts.
In the late nineties, she walked into a gallery in Blue Hill and saw some floor cloths. “I can do that!” she said, and has been painting them since. It took some time to settle on a canvas weight and finishing techniques. Inspiration was everywhere she looked: crabs, lobsters, fish, boats.
Her designs have morphed from her floor cloths to silk screens applied to clothing, and most recently a line of home linens, including napkins and shower curtains.
